Automotive Paint Prepper (Auto Body Technician)


Job Responsibilities

As an Automotive Prepper, you will complete all paint preparation processes for vehicles according to factory specification. After a vehicle is painted, you may be responsible for wet sanding/buffing to ensure the paint finish meets quality standards. You also may prime, edge, or jam replacement parts. 

Additional responsibilities:

  • Reviewing each repair order prior to beginning work on vehicle
  • Assisting Painter in pre-op by preparing spray-out panels to determine blend needs
  • Knowing status of assigned vehicles and helping solve problems on getting and keeping all vehicles on schedule for on-time delivery
  • Utilizing all required safety equipment and following proper refinishing procedures in compliance with OSHA guidelines
  • Adhering to all requirements for hazardous waste disposal
  • Participating in monthly safety meetings and utilizing information on the job
  • Following vendor procedures to maintain all tools and equipment, including maintenance of paint booth and booth filters
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work space

Automotive Paint Prepper requirements:

  • Auto Body Vo-Tech certificate, preferred
  • I-CAR Trained, a plus
  • ASE Certifications, a plus
  • Valid state driver’s license
  • Visual acuity for color matching
  • Knowledge of manufacturers’ repair/refinishing processes
  • Ability to use selected vendor materials and general supplies efficiently and cost effectively
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued learning
  • Good attendance history
